Linear Expression in One Variable

An expression is said to be a Linear Expression in One Variable if it is not an equation and it is of degree one. Moreover it has only one variable or unknown.

For Example:

  • large 3x+5=0 is not a linear expression of degree one as it has an equal sign, where as it is of degree one and has only one variable i.e. x
  • large 3x+2y -7=0 is not a linear expression of degree one as it has an equal sign, is of degree one, but it has two variable i.e. x and y.
  • large 5x^2+2y -7=0is not a linear expression of degree one as it has an equal sign, but is not of degree one, moreover it has two variable i.e. x and y.
  • large 5x -7 is a linear expression of degree one as it does not have an equal sign, and it is of degree one with only one variable i.e. x.
